Panel- That’s No Moon: An Improved Space Opera – Planet Comicon Kansas City

Friday night at Planet Comicon Kansas City was a delight.  I attended the evening panel of That’s No Moon: An Improved Space Opera. This panel was put on by the local improv group, That’s No Movie.

That’s No Movie uses a specific style of storytelling and entertaining.  They do the typical improv group by take suggestions from the audience to create the story and run with it.  What is unique is That’s No Movie does is to frame everything into shooting of a movie. They will tell you the shot by shot and where the camera zooms and fade.

As expected, this panel kept the audience laughing.  It started with the movie title being a date and then talking about how time is lost and no one really knows the date.  Every 30 seconds or so, it would go from one of the performers discussion what was going on and the others acting it out to switching to someone else having the lead.  Sometimes it was much quicker than that.

For the hour they gave us the movie and 2 sequel.  It had the weird quirkiness Buckaroo Bonsai mixed with the budget and writing staff for a made for SyFy movie.  I enjoyed this so much. It  was a perfect capstone to the first day of Planet Comicon Kansas City.

My movie reviews always have a letter grade so let me give you one for this show.

Grade: L  – For Laughing through the whole show.  If it was a movie, it would be an A.

Stay Geeky!
