Actor and comedian Paul Reubens passed away at 70 years of age on Sunday, July 30, 2023. Reubens had privately been fighting cancer for six years. He lost his battle with it on Sunday.
Reubens hid his cancer from his fans. A statement was release from him about cancer after he passed. “Please accept my apology for not going public with what I’ve been facing the last six years. I have always felt a huge amount of love and respect from my friends, fans and supporters. I have loved you all so much and enjoyed making art for you.”
Paul Reubens was best known for his kid show character, Pee Wee Herman. The character of Pee Wee Herman was originally developed as a stage act for Reubens comedy with a lot of adult innuendos. The character went on to be the focus of two movies and a Saturday morning kid’s show that dropped the adult innuendos.
Reubens acted in several other notable roles over the years. He was Derek Forea in the drug movie, Blow. He portrayed Penguin’s Father in Batman Returns. My favorite crazy role of his was as the vampire Amilyn in Buffy the Vampire movie where he has one of the greatest death scenes in cinematic history.
Rest in Peace, Mr Reubins. You are missed.
