Planet Comicon Kansas City 2017 Wrap Up

I am exhausted!  Today is the day after a convention and I am always tired.  This year I am feeling particularly drained.  Yet I am so happy that I spent the last three days with fellow geeks and nerds at Planet Comicon Kansas City.

Planet Comicon Kansas City has grown to be huge.  The size of the convention floor is around the same size of C2E2.  There was so much to do and see.  Josh and the Comic Cave from Springfield had a booth and we didn’t find it until the last day.  Planet Comicon Kansas City  has become one of larger conventions.

It was a fantastic weekend.  It was none stop fun. I met several of my favorite comic creators.  I attended panels of some of my favorite guests.  I checked out a ton of the vendors.  I covered the event and several panels for Geeky KOOL. It was so much fun as a fan and as a member of the press.

There is a few things that separate this convention from some of the other large Cons.

1) Marvel, DC, Image, and many other comic publishers didn’t have a booth and full time presence.

2) There wasn’t breaking news at this convention.

3) There wasn’t video game creator presence with Sony, Nintendo, and X-Box.

4) The guests, vendors, cosplayers, and attendees were extremely nice and understanding of each other.  There is a friendliness that is unusual for big conventions.

I believe the first three on this list will be changing in the near future. You can’t have a convention this size without attracting the attention of the big boys in comics and video games. They will be coming in the near future.

Dan DiDio of DC Comics was here this year. I believe he will return with a bigger DC presence. If DC Comics sets up a booth, then you know that Marvel won’t be left out or vice versa.  When these show up, they will bring breaking news with them.

I for see video game companies quickly join in for Planet Comicon Kansas City.  In the Next 5 years, Sony, Nintendo, and X-Box should have a booth.

I don’t think the friendliness of Kansas City will change. The people around the KC area have the southern Midwest sensibilities and and courtesy. People may get frustrated with lines and waiting but overall, they will keep their good demeanor.

I was honored that Geeky KOOL could cover this awesome event as members of the press. Me and my staff had a full weekend.  It allowed us to get an up close look at some of the greatest parts of Planet Comicon Kansas City. We look forward to covering this event for years to come.

We will be posting numerous photos from this weekend’s festivities in the near future.
