REDRUM.. Doctor Sleep Trailer : A GeekyGirlNess View

The Shining was written over 36 years ago. Finally horror author, Stephen King has written its sequel. The Shining is often hailed as one of the scariest novels ever penned.

Doctor Sleep will follow a grown-up Danny Torrance. You remember the kid on the big wheel? I do! Danny of course is still dealing with the trauma that happened at the Overlook Hotel.

This November sees the big screen adaptation of Doctor Sleep. King has always said he was not a fan of the Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 movie adaptation of The Shining which started Jack Nicholson. Let’s hope this sequel will gain the authors thumbs up!

The sequel Doctor Sleep screenplay has been written and directed by Mike Flanagan. It does seem that Flanagan is a fan of the 1980 movie based on the trailer. It has some throw backs and some scenes taken directly from the 1980 movie.

Doctor Sleep stars Ewan McGregor as grown-up Dan Torrance. The synopsis of the movie says that Dan is recovering alcoholic like his father. He has taken a job as a hospice orderly, and tries to suppress his Shining ability. He sometimes uses his power to help the terminally ill patients pass in peace. This gives him the name Doctor Sleep.

When Dan meets Abra (portrayed by newcomer actress Kyliegh Curran), a young girl with the same Shining abilities, he will have to face his past head on.

In the trailer, we even see glimpses of the film’s villain, Rose the Hat (played by Rebecca Ferguson). Rose, who also has the Shine, has a gang of creepy circus people??! (I am not sure how that is going to play out. To be honest, I know way too many real life “circus freaks” to be scared of them. Lol)

However, Rose uses her gang and her powers to steal the life of other Shiners.

Let’s hope Flanagan makes this film the movie all fans want from a sequel of such an iconic horror book and decent horror film. I mean don’t get me wrong, I didn’t hate the 1980s version. However, the book was better!! Flanagan has already adapted one Stephen King novel for the big screen, Gerald’s Game. He also took the classic novel The Haunting of Hill House and adapted it to a more modern feel while still keeping its creepy factor. So here is hoping!

I would love to see more of Stephen King’s books made into great movies. The books are awesome! I am usually disappointed though with the movies.

The only exception is IT. I absolutely loved IT Chapter One and look forward to IT Chapter in September.

So here is a look at the first Trailer for Doctor Sleep.
