According to IGN, IDW’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #44 has the a very sad ending. This issue has the death of one of the four turtles. Donatello was killed in a battle with Bebop and Rocksteady.
Donatello was left at the home base to run the command on the mission while Leonardo, Raphael, and Michelangelo are out in the field fighting of Krang and the Technodrome. Shredder uses the confusion to send out Bebop and Rocksteady to attack the Turtle’s Command Center. After an intense fight, Rocksteady got the final blow on Donatello’s shell with his sledgehammer and cracked it open.
The IDW Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series has been committed to make the Turtle series more series. They are trying to reconnect to the original dark roots of the Black and White Comic from the early 80s.
Of course we know this is the comics. Death does always have a long term hold on characters in the comics. In fact, rumor is that in the next issue, we may find that Donnie “isn’t fully dead but only mostly dead.”

Wow! That is some sad ending. I didn’t expect to be emotionally affected by this but I am. How very sad. Donatello was always my favorite Turtle.
