Former Doctor Who show runner, Russell T Davies, has come out and stated that the Doctor Who universe should have a vast and shared universe much like Marvel or Star Wars. During his time with Doctor Who, Davies has not only the main Doctor Who series but also the The Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood series. This was a shared universe at the time and the characters would crossover.
Davies believes it was an idea before it’s time and is sad that Doctor Who didn’t stick with it. He believes they should go back to this and develop the larger universe with some of the characters. “I was in the middle of running an empire,” Davies said of his time on Doctor Who. “And my god I did that 10 years too soon, didn’t I?” “There should be a Doctor Who channel now. You look at those Disney announcements, of all those new Star Wars and Marvel shows, you think, we should be sitting here announcing The Nyssa Adventures or The Return of Donna Noble, and you should have the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors together in a 10-part series. Genuinely.” (RadioTimes)
Didn’t have space for this in my interview (also: bit niche) but here’s Russell T Davies’ vision of an MCU-style future for #DoctorWho, complete with David Tennant/Matt Smith team-up and – the petition starts here, folks – The Nyssa Adventures. https://t.co/dFJhRrbZMU pic.twitter.com/WFobGiHuj1
