Tony Todd, the horror actor best known for playing the title role of “Candyman” in the horror films of the same name has passed away. Tony’s representatives said the actor who was 69, died at his home. No cause of death was announced.
Todd made his film debut in Oliver stone’s war epic Platoon, playing Sargent Warren. He achieved stardom playing Ben in the remake of Night of the Living Dead, which then led to playing Daniel Robitaille “the Candyman” in the Candyman series of films. He played Captain Darrow in the Michael Bay action thriller “The Rock” staring opposite Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage. He played various roles in the Final destination series of films, and played Admiral Ramirez in the Star Trek fan film, Prelude to Axanar. Other film roles included playing the Voice of the Transformers character “The Fallen” in Transformers:Revenge of the Fallen. He also voiced Darkseid in 3 direct to video releases.
His TV credits include roles on Star Trek TNG and DS9 as Kurn( Worfs brother), and as an adult version of Jake Sisko. He had various roles on Hercules: the Legendary Journeys and Xena warrior Princess and many others. he also did a bunch of voice work for video games.
He will be seen in Final Destination:Bloodlines playing William Bloodworth, which is set to hit theaters next year.
Tony was an amazing actor, who was a regular on the Convention circuit, this reporter was lucky enough to meet him and pick up a photo from him at Galaxycon:Richmond this year. He graciously spent time talking to every fan in line, and always with a smile on his face.
