I must admit, when it comes to Christmas, I am a glittery little fairy of good cheer, jingle bells, and sugar cookie bliss! My momma raised me right! I love almost all the elements of the holidays of December from every culture.
One such tradition I have done at some parties is the “White Elephant.” If you are not aware, a ‘white elephant gift exchange is where you buy a gift within a set budget, normally $10-$20 or homemade in my understanding. The items can be random, a gag, funny, nice, practical, adult drinks are common, homemade; depends on the rules the party members have agreed to first. Then, all the gifts go in the middle. Normally, you draw numbers. The first person gets to select a gift first, the second next, so on, so forth.
Simple enough? Well, then things get chaotic!
Usually, once you have the gifts, everyone takes turns either deciding if they want to keep their gift or STEAL someone else, them switching. This always gets my anxiety up, lol! House rules kick in now, depending on your co-partiers. Sometimes you open the gifts first then steal. Sometimes you wait until the end. Sometimes a gift can only be stolen 3 or 4 times before it is safe. Once, we played where we rolled a giant D6 and each meant something like a 3 meant you passed your gift to the right. I’m always very protective of my gift, even if it is not the best because I hate stealing, even in a fun setting.
It’s crazy. It’s goofy. It’s the holidays!
So, what are some of the White Elephants I have gotten so far in my life? Well, here they are, ranked! If you read one on here and you gave it to me, I mean no harm! LOL! Again, like the season, it is all about being together and having a blast, cherishing memories.
