Today there was another big announcement for Spiderman fans. The regular continuity Amazing Spiderman/Peter Parker will have a crossover mini series with Ultimate Spiderman/Miles Morales. The “Spider-Men” mini series will begin in June. Here is the announcement from Marvel.
The Ultimate Marvel Universe began in 2000. The characters in the Ultimate Universe (Earth 1610) are similar to regular Marvel Universe (Earth 616) characters. The characters were updated and had some difference such as Spiderman was bitten by a genetically enhanced spider instead of a radioactive one.
In the past, Marvel made it clear that they would not cross over the Universes. It appears they are making an exception for Spiderman’s 50th anniversary. If it goes well, we may see other crossovers of Universes in the future.
Last year, Peter Parker, AKA Spiderman, died in the Ultimate Universe. The young man, Miles Morales, took over as Spiderman. Miles have a couple of different abilities: Invisibility and Venom Strike (can render individuals unconscious with a touch).
The miniseries will be written by Brian Michael Bendis. Sara Pichelli will be the primary artist. And cover art will be done by Jim Cheung.
I am excited about this crossover. I don’t normally read Ultimate Spiderman and have not picked up an issue since Miles took over. I can’t wait to see the interaction and how Peter deals with the information that the Peter on Earth 1610 died in action as Spiderman.
