January 2017, a new Star Trek series will hit the airwaves.  Hitting the airwaves may not be a great description.  CBS will air the first episode of the new Star Trek series on CBS.  But then they will only show on CBS All Access.

The New Star Trek series will not be connected to the Star Trek movie series.  It will introduce new characters, new worlds, and exciting new civilizations.  It will boldly go where no one has gone before.

CBS All Access is a digital subscription service.  It costs $5.99 per month for the subscription.  It is like Hulu but only has CBS shows, present and past.  This will be the first original series just for CBS All Access.

CBS has pushed their CBS All Access very hard.  If you want to watch a CBS episode you missed, you have to subscribe to their monthly series.  They do not offer their shows on other subscription services like Hulu.

This is a huge gamble for CBS.  They are putting a lot of eggs in their CBS All Access basket. A new Trek series could be a huge hit on the network line up for CBS.  We will never know if it would be a rating hit or not.

Who put the Ferengi in charge of the new series?  It might bring them a ton of Gold Pressed Latinum.  Making fans pay a subscription fee to watch Star Trek sounds like one of the Rules of Acquisition.
