Steven Moffat is the head writer and show runner for Doctor Who. Moffat was on the ground level as a writer from the beginning of the New Doctor Who series in 2006. After 4 seasons, Russell T Davies stepped down as the show runner. Moffat took up the role as the head of the show.
After another 7 seasons, Steven Moffat will step down as the Doctor Who show runner. In 2016, there will only be a Doctor Who Christmas episode with Peter Capaldi’s Doctor. 2017 will have the 11th season of Doctor with the final 12 episodes with Moffat.
Moffat will hand the show over Chris Chibnall. Chibnall is a huge Doctor Who fan. He is a writer for the BBC series, Broadchurch. His run on Doctor Who will begin in 2018.
