According to James Roland, senior creator of
Blood Drive, the SyFy Network has canceled the grindhouse type of series,
Blood Drive. He announced this on this blog after the final episode aired.Roland was gracious to the SyFy Network for giving the series a chance. He stated that no other network was willing to give him a chance. He thanked them for their patience with him and how he was moody on some days with their restrictions.
The series did have low ratings for the SyFy network. It also had a very vocal and loyal following on social media. Fans of the series loved it. They have started a hashtag, #RenewBloodDrive. Blood Drive had some critical acclaim.
Blood Drive was set in a near-apocalyptic future with a bloody cross-country death race. The cars are powered by blood. The series main character was the last remaining good cop in Los Angeles. The blood and gore gave this series the grindhouse movie style.
Roland stated that he planned a second season for Blood Drive but is now on hold. NBC/Universal owns the rights to series. Roland will approach them with some possible options in the future when the time is right. It is possible another cable network could take a chance on this series.
A streaming service could pick up this series for a second and maybe more seasons. It could be a good fit with Netflix, Amazon Prime, or Hulu. If it was picked up by a streaming service, Blood Drive could become more graphic with gore and nudity like a traditional grindhouse film.
