When I examined who was coming to Tremendicon, I was extremely excited to see Tom Hutchison’s name on the list. Tom is the is the co-founder of Big Dog Ink, a small comic book company, as well as the writer and creator of thirteen different titles including Critter, Penny for Your Soul, Ursa Minor, Legend of Oz: The Wicked West, Kaiju Epic and more.
About Thirteen years ago, I flipped through a Preview magazine. I saw an advertisement for the number one issue of Legend of Oz: The Wicked West. This was a new comic from a brand new comic company. It looked amazing so I ask my local shop to order it for me. It eclipsed my expectations. Since that time, I have been following Tom Hutchison’s career with Big Dog Ink.
I met Tom at several different conventions. I always spend money at his booth but I love his work. Over the years I have met several of his artists and they all say such nice things about Tom. He hired David Faught as a cover artist and worked with him before David got sick.
I am such a fanboy that Tom knows me by name. He was on our podcast to honor David. We have plans to have Tom on next week to discuss a Kickstarter and all of the KOOL stuff with Big Dog Ink.
Tom spent a lot of his time doing panels and helping to teach about comic book writing, creating, selling, and the process for those that wanted to learn. He brought his insight from creating his own company to working with another company to using Kickstarter for projects.
I had a great time chatting with Tom. I always do. He always has a smile and is excited about upcoming projects.
