If you thought Murtaugh was too old for this $!&% back in the 87, just think what he is too old for now. According to Variety, there will be a Lethal Weapon 5 movie and it will be directed by Mel Gibson, who starred in the series as the wild card LAPD detective Martin Riggs.
Legendary movie director, Richard Donner directed and produced the prior four Lethal Weapon movies. Donner passed away in 2021. The director role has been handed to Gibson for this film. According to Gibson, it was Donner’s wish that Gibson direct if Donner was no longer with us.
The prior movies were larger-than-life-action cop dramas. They were all seen as successful “popcorn” movies that provided an escape for the audience. There are iconic lines from these films that have become part of our lexicon in society.
We will see if audiences are excited to return to the lives of Riggs and Murtaugh after all of this time.
