The other day, a friend of mine told me he has never watched the movie “Airplane”. I was shocked by this. He is in his 40’s. He was around in 1980 when Airplane hit theaters. It was on television constantly during the 80s. How did he miss this classic slapstick guy movie? Guys love great quotes and Airplane is an extremely quotable and funny movie.
This lead me to create this list of guy movies that are both geeky and KOOL. In the process, I realized I could not leave numerous movies off the list. I decided to create a multiple week series of Geeky KOOL Guy movies.
This week’s list is the Top 10 Geeky KOOL Sci Fi Movies. This list was remade numerous times. I could have made this list a top 30 and still left off extremely great and geeky KOOL sci fi movies.

10) Stargate
What Makes It Geeky KOOL?
An un-buried gate allows people to travel to another planet. This planet is controlled by the Egyptian god, Ra, who is an alien. A scientist and army Colonel attempt to work together to save the people of this planet and stop the powerful alien. This movie spawned 3 television series and captured our imagination.

9) The Road Warrior
What Makes It Geeky KOOL?
After a global war, oil becomes a top commodity. The Road Warrior is a great sequel to good Mad Max movie. Max is an anti hero but comes through when he is needed. The villainous punk marauders really make this movie uber KOOL.

8) The Terminator/ T2

What is KOOL about Killer cyborgs from the future attempting to the kill the resistance before it began by killing the mother of the leader? Just everything. Here the sequel T2 is even better than the original.

7) Alien/ Aliens

Both of these movies go hand and hand together. Yes, they have a completely different feel. Alien is a horror movie that had sci fi feel. Aliens is a sci fi movie with a horror feel. These movies introduce one of the scariest but KOOLest alien characters.

A fake dream world set up by machines to keep humans in line. Only a few know the truth. Neo escapes this dream world to find the hard cold world where machines rule. Neo learns to use the Matrix and becomes the chosen one. Extremely KOOL special effects and unique storytelling.

This is a dark future Earth set in 2019 where androids look like humans and some humans hunt those androids. This is a fantastic world set up Ridley Scott. It even predicted the love of Sushi in America.

As you turn 30 years of age, you sacrifice yourself for the good of the community. What happens when a Sandman (quasi police) tries to infiltrate the runners to stop them from escaping? This is great 70’s sci fi.

The original great Japanese monster movie. Godzilla is often an anti hero and monster. A giant lizard with fire breath is KOOL!

It doesn’t get much more geeky than Star Trek. This is the greatest Star Trek movie ever. I can watch this movie over and over again. This movie has everything a Trekkie (or Trekker) could desire.

1) Star Wars Trilogy
What Makes It Geeky KOOL?
I had a difficult time dividing this one into just one of these movies. They are all AWESOME so I included all of the movies from greatest Trilogy. These movies shaped my childhood. The original shaped my childhood and play. Empire was KOOL and dark and left me with an infuriating cliff hanger. I hit my teen years and Jedi was great and had a metal bikini laden Princess Leia.
This Trilogy is the greatest set of movies ever.
