The season of spooks, ghosts, and ghouls of every age, where the strange is worshipped during endless full moons with bat and cat companions. Halloween is here and I love how the countdown has been since July 5th, lol! Even though I am not a fan of horror or being scared, I do list twists on classic monsters (Heck; I wrote a book series about monster hunters, lol!) And I am a Twi-hard; accept that. ^_- But, I derailed! HA! I did always find vampires fascinating and the anime and manga world has plenty of universes to choose from. I have watched/read ones that are…intense or 17+, but there are so grand ones as well.
So, I wanted to share my Top Five favorite animes and/or mangas that involve vampires. I briefly described them and added links to the titles for you to get them and learn more. 🙂 These books have a bite that will have you aching for more! <3
Top Five Anime/Manga with Vampires:
Millennium Snow (manga-) “A kind 17-year-old girl who wants to live for a thousand years, but has a terrible heart condition. A chance encounter with a sour lonely vampire who has not shared his life with someone yet due to fear. A whimsical, beautiful, and fun four manga series from the creator of Ouran High School Host Club that will melt your heart.”
Karin (manga is called ‘Chibi Vampire-‘) “Karin is nothing like the rest of her family: she loves to cook food, she goes out during the day, and does not like the dark. She seems pretty normal, eh? Not in her family of vampires! In fact, Karin is an UNvampire. Instead of needing to drink blood to live, her body MAKES it, so much to the point it’ll explode into chronic nose bleeds (her classmates think she is anemic, lol!) Yet, the new boy in school that has scary eyes, but a heart of gold discovers her secret and being near him makes Karin’s blood pound. Is it from vampire instincts or something else? This show is 16+, but such a riot and has the cutest couple in it!”
Rosario x Vampire- “A human boy ends up getting sent to a new high school. Little did he know it is a school for monsters! And he literally gets crashed into by a beautiful vampire…with a bike! And when he accidentally touches her cocker, only he can make her vampire full powers unleash. When you are an oddity (or prey depending) at this school, everything wants you: a vampire, a snow goddess, a succubus, witches… This show is colorful. However, there is a lot of fan service and it is 16+!
Vampire Knight- “Cross Academy has two divisions of classes: Day and Night. The Day class assumes the Night class goes then for they are rich. But, in truth…the Night class are all vampires. Yuki Cross is the adopted daughter of the school director and she knows the truth. At night, she guards the outside of Night dorms against crazed fan girls to keep their secrets…and keep the vampires from feasting on school guards, along with Zero, a guy who the director also took in after an evil vampire attacked him. Yuki has a secret reason for protecting the night class too: for Kuname, the kind, pure vampire who recused her from being killed by dark vampires when she was a child.”
Vampire Dormitory (manga-) “I have only read the first volume so far, but I enjoyed it and am eager to read more. Here is the official blurb on the back of the book: ‘Mito has no family to rely on. She lives on the streets, disguised as a boy. Ruka is an otaku vampire interested only in 2D girls (he’s an otaku, obsessed with anime and manga, which I LOVE, lol.!) After Ruka saves Mito from a perilous situation, he makes her an offer: “Become my subservient thrall and let me drink your blood whenever I wish! In return, you can live with me—in the boys’ dorm!” But to stay with him, Mito must hide the fact that she’s a girl. Every day is a new danger—to say nothing of that bloodthirsty vampire!'”
Honorable Mentions:
- Dracula Everlasting (manga.)
