Trek yourself!!

Trek yourself!!

Kids, have you ever gotten on the internet and found something that was so crazy geeky and expensive that you seriously considered selling random stuff around the house to buy it? Well today was one of those days for me. I was browsing the Star Trek site and discovered that you can now buy a Star Trek action figure of … drum roll please.. yourself!

I had a Big Bang moment remembering the episode where Raj and Howard decided to buy a 3-D printer just to make action figures of themselves. I immediately pictured myself as a Science officer with a Tricorder, ready to scan the newest planet for interesting lifeforms. Or a Security officer ready to protect my Captain from the alien menace. Wait, a Captain of  the Enterprise with the chair and the charm and the.. sorry I digress.

Instead of buying a 3-D printer like the boys on Big Bang, you can let a company called Cubify do all the hard work for you. For a mere $69.99 plus shipping and handling, you can turn yourself in to a Star Trek action figure. I  seriously considered doing this just so I could give you all a realistic review of the product. I mean, now all you get is a guess at how awesome the actual finished product would be. Anyone want to chip in some $$? Larry? Bryan?? Hello??

Back to the review. The site has super simple steps. You choose which Trek series you want (either Original or Next Generation) and follow the easy steps. They ask for gender, height, weight, shirt color and rank. You also choose your pose: Vulcan, Basic, Tricorder and Phaser. Next, you upload two photos of your face from the front and from the side. Finally, you can choose a message for the base attached to the figure.

Obviously this is not a toy to play with since it has no moving parts. Bummer city!  It is also made out of a ceramic type material which means breakable. It is made to sit on your mantle with the rest of your collection. You also cannot get it wet. While I am tempted to try this out I don’t have that kind of money just laying around for a ceramic knickknack. My logical brain says no and my fun brain says yes we must have this! In the end my Mister gave me that look that said “crazy geek wife spending all the money” and I decided to save it for a rainy day. Plus, I know that I would somehow break the dang thing as soon as I took it out of the box.

So what do you think? Is this something you would purchase? Is it worth it? I can see this being a cool gift for that special Trekkie someone that already has it all. Other than that I don’t think it’s worth the current price.
