Pacific Rim was a big hit for Warner Bros and Legendary. It made 420 Million dollars world-wide. But it cost around 190 Million to make the movie.
Legendary and Warner Bros were in discussions of a sequel movie, Pacific Rim: Maelstrom (Pacific Rim 2). The relationship between Legendary and both Warner Bros and Universal have soured. The negotiations to bring Kong: Skull Island to Warner Bros from Universal has affected their relationships with Legendary. Now the Pacific Rim sequel has been put on indefinite Hold.
Even though Warner Bros grossed over 200 million dollars, making a sequel is risky business. The special effects requirement will be greater in Pacific Rim 2. If Pacific Rim 2 doesn’t gross a box office take in, they could lose money on it.
Pacific Rim is one of my favorite movies. One can barely contain my Excitement. Warner Bros, please stop teasing me and just make this movie.
