Last weekend I attended VisionCon in Branson, MO. VisionCon is the première Geek convention in Southwest Missouri. They were celebrating their 25th anniversary convention. They spectacularly pulled it off. It was one of my favorite conventions ever.
I showed up Friday afternoon expecting things to be a bit slow for the first day. The opening ceremonies were not until 5 pm but the convention was busying with people at 2 pm.
I was surprised by the size of the convention. There was a ton of space on the show floor but it was all taken with awesome vendors, artists, clubs, and authors. There were a ton of awesome special guests.
I expected most cosplayers to wait until Saturday to pull out their costumes and start the fun. I was mistaken. I was greeted with cosplayers of all ages in their full splendor. Cosplayers broke out their best anime characters, comic book heroes and villains, video game protagonists, and steampunk. There were even more cosplaying on Saturday and Sunday. I am blown away by how creative some people are.
There wasn’t a moment of downtime from the second I stepped into the convention. I bounced around from helping our friends at the Fanatics and Fans, talking to the vendors and guests on the show floor, hanging with my friends in Artist and Author alley, and attending different panels.
I had several highlights with this awesome 3 day convention. I was a part of an awesome Fanatics and the Fan live podcast with Hawk Holman – Fanatics and the Fan Head Honcho, Sandra Maeder of Blood, Sweat and Gears, the beautiful and uber awesome costumer Toni Globis, and comedian and entertainer Mikey Mason. I met and talked to the awesome actor and mega geek, Sam Witwer. I had my first Cosplay experience (See Top Picture) and went all steampunk. Attending the wonderful live stage Firefly “Jaynestown” was fantastic. I spent some time playing in the game room with a KOOL RPG. Last but not least, I got to hang out with friends, make new friends, and bask in awesome geek community.
I would like to thank the awesome staff of VisionCon for creating a wonderful and fun convention. Koodos to VisionCon President Brandon Shane for pulling off a totally awesome convention. Thank you VisionCon for letting me cover this fantastic convention.
Two more articles about VisionCon are yet to come. There will be cosplay images post hopefully by tomorrow night. I will add an article about meeting Sam Witwer. Stay tuned.
Stay Geeky My Friends!
