I attended a Q&A session with our Buddy Keith from Pop Culture Minefield. Keith was on stage at the Main stage answering questions.
Keith started with a tribute for the comic book Legend Neal Adams. Adams passed away yesterday at age 80. Keith expressed how he sees Adams as a member of the Mount Rushmore for Batman creators.
An audience member asked Keith if their podcast, Culture Minefield, will get downloadable content in the near future. Keith answered they they are working on it.
Keith was asked about his feelings about the Paramount+ series, Star Trek: Picard. Keith answered that he loves Patrick Stewart and his character of Picard from STNG. He personally feels like Stewart is no longer playing the same character but rather Stewart is now playing an exaggerated version of himself with his heartfelt political views. Keith is not a fan of how the character has changed.
Keith was then asked about his overall view of the new Star Trek series on Paramount+. Keith described it as Star Trek for people who weren’t fans of the original Star Trek different series. He clarified that the show runners are intentionally making it different so they get paid a bigger piece of the pie. If they make it like previous shows, they have to share some of the money with those creators so they make it different on purpose. “It is all about ego and money.”
Keith was asked about the CW Network. Keith stated that the CW is losing money for Warner Bros so Warner is looking to get away from the CW. He has heard that all of the DC programming will go away from CW very soon. He mentioned the recent news of the canceling of Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow. Keith stated that Batwoman has the lowest ratings of any show on TV and the second lowest rating in the history.
Keith was asked about his expectations for the upcoming Flash movie. Keith stated that first of all he hopes it is good. He mentioned how WB is not happy with Ezra Miller and the bad press. They are seeing Miller as an issue why the newest Fantastic Beasts didn’t do well at the box office. WB is in discussions on how to replace Miller and also Amber (in Aquaman) but his understanding is that no decision is official. He did mention the rumors of replacing Miller with Grant Gustin isn’t going to happen and Gustin’s recent movie bombed at the box office.
Keith went on to state the new head of WB is down with the Synderverse. Keith stated that he believes DC and Marvel both need to go deeper into their IPs for characters that haven’t been touched. They need people in charge that know the characters.
Keith was asked about any new information that he has received that he might be able to share at the convention. Keith stated that Kiteman, from the Harley Quinn animated series very likely will get a spin off series of his own. Keith also mentioned that there will be a Disney+ series for Werewolf by Night and the Man-Thing will be introduced in it.
Keith went on to share a speculation about the new Doctor Strange movie. He believes that the reason the Multiverse is broken is because it was being held together by a “band aid” because it was already broken. He stated the rumor is that Wanda had broke it prior. She is the reason there have been no mutants in the MCU up till now. She had already said “No Mutants” but now we will be getting mutants back.
Keith was asked “what is the best science fiction or fantasy series on TV or streaming right now. After taking a moment to answer, he stated that he has two shows that fit that for him. They are Peacemaker and Young Justice. He mentioned that Young Justice recently had an episode that featured Rocket from the Milestone characters.
Keith was asked what series on Disney+ that he has been somewhat disappointed with. He mentioned the Book of Boba Fett didn’t live up to what he expected from it. He also mentioned his disappointment with Hawkeye and Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Keith was asked about any news for the second season of What If? and if there is any special news. There will be a second season and there is some speculation that Captain Carter could get her own series.
Keith was his usual fun and KOOL self during the Q&A. Everyone knows Keith and knows that he brings a lot of great information and often is clued in on things that he cannot fully share. This was a wonderful panel.
