Yesterday Marvel Announced their Marvel Studios Superhero lineups for the next several years with their Phase 3. With movies out to 2019, we now know what is in Marvel’s immediate plans. But there were three glaring holes in their lineup. There is no Black Widow, Hawkeye, or Hulk movie for Phase 3. These three Avengers were left out of solo movies during the upcoming Phase 3.
Back in February of 2014, Variety announced a Black Widow movie. They stated that The Black Widow movie would reveal more of her checkered past. It appears Variety was either wrong or too quick on the gun to announce this. The lack of a Black Widow movie is a huge disappointment to fans of her character. My 13 year old daughter was very upset that she was left off the list of upcoming Marvel Movies.
There were also rumors of a Hulk movie starring Mark Ruffalo. Marvel has had two less than “Incredible” Hulk movies. They were at best “Okay”. Ruffalo added a lot of personality and conflict to the role of Doctor Bruce Banner and the Hulk. I would have loved to have a Hulk movie with Mark Ruffalo.
The biggest disappointment to me is the lack of a Hawkeye movie. He is one of my favorite Marvel comic characters. I would have loved to see a Mark Waid version of the character on the big screen. But I don’t hear a lot of others clamoring for this movie to be made. Hopefully someday we will see Hawkeye in his full fun and glory.
